The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a familiar phone cams that has resurfaced in the area. Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says several residents have reported someone claiming to be “Deputy Morris” is calling them telling them they have a warrant and asking them to pay through non-governmental services. Waldschmidt says if you receive a call from the scammer hang up. Waldschmidt says detectives are working to identify the scammer, but he says it’s likely the person is not even in the United States and will be difficult to identify. Waldschmidt says the Sheriff’s Office does not call people with warrants to notify them. He says they send deputies to locate them and take them into custody. He says if you have already sent money in this scam, notify local law enforcement as soon as possible, to try to stop the payment and recover the money.
