6-29-22 tweaked covid-19 booster vaccine

Government advisers are recommending that some U.S. adults get a modified COVID-19 booster shot this fall — one that better matches more recent virus variants. If the Food and Drug Administration agrees, it will have to decide on the exact recipe change.  Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller  says the current vaccines still offer strong protection against hospitalization and death, but protection against infection dropped markedly with the omicron variant.  Pfizer says either an omicron targeted booster or a combination shot that mixes the original vaccine with omicron protection substantially increases protection.  Moderna hopes to offer a similar combination shot.
