1-25-22 optional masking returns to fdl school district

The Fond du Lac School District is lifting its universal masking requirement.   Superintendent Dr. Jeff Fleig says based on the number of COVID-19 cases beginning Tuesday the District is returning to a mask optional policy.  “Our numbers were still very high last Thursday when we updated our dashboard,” Dr. Fleig told WFDL news.  “…as of today we are at about 73 student cases and down to about 12 staff cases.  We have been averaging about 50-60 on the weekends.”   Meanwhile, Dr. Fleig says the District is adopting the recently updated CDC guidance for COVID-19 quarantine and isolation protocol.  Dr, Fleig says the big change involves close contact with family members.  “Right now what I’m saying is  if someone in your family is positive and they can isolate within your home, great, their child can come to school,  but they have to monitor their symptoms.  If their symptoms begin they’ll have to go back to treated as a symptomatic person.”   Dr. Fleig nearly two years into the pandemic  he’s concerned that “We’re at a point where there is a disconnect from school with our children.”  He says the District needs to implement some “stability and predictability here.”
