12-2-20 knowing your target and what is beyond

The Fond du lac County Sheriff says it’s fortunate that nobody was hurt when stray bullets from hunting parties struck buildings on the same property twice over the Thanksgiving holiday.   One bullet struck the side of a house and the next day a bullet struck a detached garage and car parked inside.  Waldschmidt says the property on Pommering Road in the town of Springvale is bordered on three sides by public land.  Waldschmidt says in both cases the shooter violated a basic rule of safe hunting of  knowing what’s beyond the target.  “In this case the house was beyond the target and when you miss the deer the bullet continued on and struck the house,”  Waldschmidt told WFDL news.  Waldschmidt says that rule is especially important when hunters are conducting deer drives, which was the case in both incidents.  Waldschmidt says it’s fortunate that nobody was hurt.
