10-22-20 drug take back campaign

Drug Free Communities and the Fond du Lac Senior Center are teaming up to help people disposes of old, unused prescription medication.   As part of the fall Drug Take Back campaign, DFC and the Senior Center are partnering to provide free medication disposal pouches and lock up bags.  The Deterra disposal pouches will be given away during the drive-up Senior Dining program  from 11am to noon Thursday.   The disposal pouches allow people to safely dispose of medications in their homes.  Opioid and Other Drugs Coordinator with Drug Free Communities of Fond  du Lac County, Alex Berg says unused prescription medications in homes can create a public health a safety concern because they can be accidentally ingested, stolen, misused and abused.   Berg says a recent survey found that 53 percent of Fond du Lac County youth in grades eight, 10 and 11 reported obtaining prescription medications for misuse from their parent’s medicine cabinet.   Berg, says  there are also drug drop boxes located throughout the county.
