World War Two hero and Fond du Lac native James Megellas has died.   According to a Facebook post Megellas died peacefully in his sleep early this morning in Colleyville, Texas.  Megellas was 103.   Colonel Megellas is the most decorated officer in the history of the 82nd Airborne Division.    Last year Republican congressman Glenn Grothman introduced legislation to award Megellas the Congressional Medal of Honor for his courage during the Battle of the Bulge.   During the battle, Megellas single-handedly stopped a German tank in it’s tracks with a grenade to save the lives of the men in his platoon.
