3-26-20 longterm care facilities assesssing preparedness for coronavirus

Nursing homes and other long term care facilities are taking steps to assess and improve their preparedness for responding to the coronavirus.  Cindy Kilgas at the Touchtone Living Center assisted living facility in North Fond du Lac staff has developed a checklist to keep residents and staff safe.  According to the CDC that checklist should include rapid identification and management of ill residents, supplies and resources,  education and training and sick leave policies and other occupational health considerations.  Kilgas says while the lightbulb has gone on for many people, she concerned that there are still people who are not taking this as seriously as they should.  “I think there’s concern on my part about people still not doing the social isolation.  Teenagers getting together with other teenagers and things like that,”  Zilgas told WFDL news.  “It really doesn’t do us any good for these practices to continue because it puts us all at risk.”
