3-26-20 fdl council okays design work for renovated lakeside park pavilion

A month and a half after approving a business group’s plan to develop a portion of Fond du Lac’s Lakeside Park the Fond du Lac city council has given the okay to proceed with design work for a renovated pavilion.  Meeting Wednesday night for the first time with the city under a state of emergency during the coronavirus pandemic the council voted six to one to allow Excel Engineering to design a renovated pavilion for the council to consider at a future meeting.    Councilmember Kay Miller voted against.   Miller said given the circumstances surrounding the coronavirus outbreak and state of emergency the matter should have been postponed.   While many local governments have either cancelled meetings or are conducting virtual meetings, the Fond du Lac city council met in person.  There were 14 people in the legislative chambers for last night’s meeting, including council and staff.    In February the council approved a feasibility study for the business group’s alternate park master plan and the general concepts of that plan.  Those concepts include building a restaurant on the lighthouse peninsula and amphitheater, ice rink and parking lot on Oven Island.
