2-21-20 silver alert-the latest

Police are hoping for a safe outcome for a Mayville man who has been missing for several days.   A Silver Alert was issued Tuesday after the family of 77 year old John Bachhuber reported him missing Monday night.   Mayville police lieutenant Ryan Toellner says police received two tips from citizens who said they saw Bachhuber walking southbound on Highway 67 near Dunn Road late Saturday night and early Sunday morning, but a search of the area found no signs of him.  “Our hope is there is a possibility that John was picked up by someone, that he was possibly in a confused state and could be sitting in a church or a homeless shelter,”  Toellner told WFDL news.  Toellner says the concern is that its been bitterly cold this week, Bachhuber is elderly, and suffers from dementia and other physical ailments.  “He didn’t get around real good.  He was able to walk but he kind of had a short shuffle where he would move about 8-10 inches at a time and he didn’t pick up his feet much,”  Toellner said.  “…with the depth of the snow and the terrain there, just knowing John, we’re confident that he wouldn’t have been able to navigate that terrain real well just because of his physical status.”  Anyone with information is asked to contact their local law enforcement agency.
