Nobody was injured in a fire that damaged a Fond du Lac apartment unit. Shortly before 6pm Saturday Fond du Lac firefighters were called to the Portland Square Apartments at 55 N. Portland Street. Fire caused significant damage to a third floor apartment unit and minor damage to adjoining apartments. The apartment complex was evacuated while firefighters extinguished the fire. The occupant of the unit where the fire started was not home when the fire alarm sounded alerting other apartment residents. Fire crews were on scene for approximately two hours. The Red Cross is assisting the displaced tenant. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
