1-20-20 business group-lakeside park plan

The Fond  du Lac city council president says he appreciates the input on ways to improve Lakeside Park and has a lot of questions about a park development plan proposed by a group of Fond du lac business leaders.  The plan includes a wharf bistro restaurant and history museum on the lighthouse peninsula.  That building would also include a meeting room and public restrooms.  Paths and boardwalks would be located to the north of the restaurant along the Lake Winnebago shoreline, and an amphitheater, seasonal ice rink and expanded parking would be built on Oven Island  along with additional boat docks in the lagoon near Oven Island.   “This type of input is good.   I like hearing what other people have to say about ideas for improving the park,”  city council president Brian Kolstad told WFDL news.  Kolstad says he has questions about whether the proposed locations of the facilities in the park are appropriate.   “One concern that I have initially is that it’s (Oven Island) a location that’s used quite often by Art in the Park or car shows.   Most of that island is used for those events and its a very nice, secluded area.  I like the initial idea of having it (amphitheater) over close to the (Fond du Lac) river.”   Kolstad says he also wants to know how much it would cost taxpayers and how much local businesses would be willing to contribute.  The plan was developed after the group asked the council last fall to put on hold plans to replace the existing park pavilion with a new pavilion.   Under the business leaders’  plan the existing pavilion would be renovated instead of replaced.  A public information meeting on the new plan will be held from 5pm to 7pm Monday at the Lakeside Park Pavilion.
