12-11-19 fdl school superintendent-school threats

The Fond du Lac school superintendent says last week’s  threat at Fond du Lac high school and airsoft gun incident at Sabish Middle School are disturbing,  especially given they happened the same week as shooting incidents at two high schools.    A 17 year old Fond du Lac High School student was arrested after posting a picture of a handgun on social media with a reference to shooting up the school.  Sebert says he doesn’t know what was going through that students’ mind, and whether  his decision to make the post was somehow related to the shooting incidents earlier in the week at high schools in Waukesha and Oshkosh.   “It’s particularly in the backdrop of what had happened earlier in the week, you have to take them (threats) exceptionally seriously,”  Sebert told WFDL news.  Meanwhile, Sebert says school officials learned a Sabish Middle School student brought an airsoft gun to a school basketball game last week.   “After the basketball game at Sabish, the gun was discharged over near Popeye’s (restaurant) and someone got shot with the bbs.  That’s my understanding of how we became aware of the fact that something had happened.”   Sebert says the danger is  its hard for anyone including police to distinguish between an airsoft gun and a real weapon.
