At the request of the Fond du Lac city council the Fond du Lac Parks director says he is exploring alternatives to using Roundup in city parks. John Redmond says the city currently does a combination of round-up and mulching to suppress weeds. “The reason we do it around the trees is so that when we’re weed whipping the weeds to protect the trees. We also do use it along the fence lines periodically and then around the paths,” Redmond told WFDL news. Redmond says the city uses the weed killer safely and on a limited basis. “Generally we use it once or twice a season,” Redmond said. At the direction of council Redmond says his office is reviewing how the city currently uses Roundup and exploring alternatives. Redmond says he will report back to the council shortly after the first of the year.
