8-20-19 fdl county sheriff supports hands-free cellphone law while driving

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff says he would like to see Wisconsin do what other states are doing and adopt a hands-free cellphone law while driving.   The new law went into effect in neighboring Minnesota  the first of the month.   Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says in Wisconsin you can use your hands to call or talk, but you can’t text.  “The problem in Wisconsin is you can legally be dialing a phone number, an officer or deputy on the side of the highway, they can’t tell if they are illegally texting or legally dialing a phone number,”  Waldschmidt told WFDL news.   But Waldschmidt says regardless of the law, its best not to talk on your cellphone while driving.
