6-21-19 fdl area women’s fund launches green dot bystander intervention training project

The Fond du Lac Area Women’s Fund is officially kicking off its Green Dot Bystander Intervention Training  project Friday to address domestic  violence.  Women’s Fund director Maria Turner says Green Dot is designed to help people take actions to intervene when they see someone being abusive.  “This particular program is designed to get community members involved in responding to domestic violence, sexual assault,  child abuse, stalking and elder abuse when they see it happening out in the community,”   Turner told WFDL news.   Turner says Green Dot focuses on the power of peer and cultural influence by use of the 3 D’s: Direct, Distract, and Delegate.  “We’ve all been in situations where we’re out and about and we see something that doesn’t feel quite right in terms of someone being abusive to a child, abusive to a partner,  and Green Dot is designed through a nationally certified curriculum to be able to give people tools to respond in those types of situations.”   Activities today coincide with National Selfie Day.  Turner says several Fond du Lac County businesses, restaurants, churches and schools will have information about the Green Dot Intervention program.   “We’re encouraging people in Fond du Lac to take pictures with the Women’s Fund Table Talk tables that are in 40 different locations throughout Fond du lac County.  We have Green Dot material on each of those tables and we want you to snap a selfie, and post it.  Its about raising awareness.”
