5-16-19 death report-fdl county public health officer reaction

The Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer says a new report shows people are living longer in Wisconsin.,   The annual death report from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services shows that more people are dying in Wisconsin, but the state’s growing elderly population is living longer.    Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says that’s good news.  “When you look at the data overall we have cancer that’s being diagnosed at earlier ages, and if people are living longer, you’re seeing people living longer with heart diseases and cancer with good treatment,”  Mueller told WFDL news.   The top three causes of death are heart disease, cancer and unintentional injury.  Mueller says that’s typical and not a surprise.  Deaths from poisonings were up 13 percent and deaths from falls were up three percent.  Poisonings account for 30 percent of all unintentional injuries, second only to falls at  42 percent.
