4-18-19 hepatitis a alert

In light of ongoing, significant outbreaks of  hepatitis A throughout the country, state health officials are encouraging vaccination against the hepatitis  A virus.  Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says although there is not a current outbreak in Wisconsin, the state did have four cases reported earlier this year.  Mueller says people who may want to get vaccinated include people traveling to countries where hepatitis A is more common or where outbreaks are currently occurring.  Mueller says other people at risk may also want to get vaccinated. Outbreaks have occurred in other Midwest states, including Illinois, and preparation for  such an outbreak in Wisconsin is ongoing.
