4-17-19 measles outbreak

Fond  du lac Public health officials  say the recent outbreak of measles across the country is scary.  The Centers for Disease Control says since January 1, 465 individual cases of measles have been confirmed in 19 states.  That’s the second highest number of cases since the CDC declared measles eliminated in 2000.  Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says she is astounded by the number and “very frightened.”  “When you look at the number of measles cases that we have compared to what it was last year or three years ago, we are increasing at a steady rate,”  Mueller told WFDL news.  “It makes me very nervous.”  Cases occur each year, often brought into the United States from international travelers,  affecting children in this country who are not vaccinated.  Public Health nurse Joyce Mann says the key is being vaccinated.  “What we can do, hopefully with a well vaccinated community, we should be able to stop it in it’s tracks.”
