4-16-19 fdl county first in the state to offer smart911

Fond du Lac County is the first county in the state to offer a new enhanced  9-1-1 service.  Communications and Emergency Management Director Bobbie Hicken says Smart911  allows individuals to create a safety profile that includes information they want 9-1-1 and first responders to have in the event of an emergency.  Hicken says having information as soon as the call is answered will allow dispatch to send help even if the person doesn’t know their location.  Dispatch supervisor Amy Fideler says Smart911 can save critical time in an emergency.  “It will save us a tremendous amount of time,”  Fideler told WFDL news.  “The response, the accuracy of the information we obtain from Smart911 is unbelievable.”    Hicken says Smart911 is available in 40 states and more than 1,500 municipalities across the country.    The Smart911 App is available on the Apple Store or Google Play.  To create a Safety Profile for your household, simply log on to wwwsmart911.com.  Meanwhile a public open house is being held from 3:30pm to 6:30pm today at the Fond du Lac County Communications Center as part of Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.
