1-18-19 federal judge strikes down early voting restrictions

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A federal judge has struck down early-voting restrictions Wisconsin Republicans enacted in a lame-duck legislative session last year. U.S. District Judge James Peterson ruled Thursday that the restrictions violate injunctions he issued in 2016. He says the lame-duck limits are clearly inconsistent with the earlier injunctions. The GOP legislation came after the liberal cities of Milwaukee and Madison held early voting for six weeks, far longer than smaller more conservative cities.
