8-22-17 dodge county sheriff says hwy 151 fatal is reminder why not to get out of your vehicle

The Dodge County Sheriff says a pickup versus pedestrian fatality on Highway 151 last week is a reminder of how dangerous it is to stop and get out of your vehicle on a busy highway.   A Beaver Dam woman had stopped in the left southbound lane to render aid after two vehicles involved in a minor crash ended up in the median.   Sheriff Dale Schmidt says 37 year old Kayla Davis  walked onto the median shoulder of the highway when she was struck and killed by a southbound pickup that swerved to avoid striking her vehicle.   Schmidt says the fact that Davis had put her vehicle hazard lights on made no difference.  “We’ve seen this type of thing before where people are out of their vehicles walking around and getting hit,”  Schmidt told WFDL news.  “We want people to stay within their vehicle at all times.”   Schmidt says in this case the tragedy is that sheriff’s deputies were already enroute to the scene and the initial accident wasn’t serious.
