5-18-17 city of waupun promoting “creative economy”

Waupun city officials are promoting economic development.  The Waupun Common Council has approved a resolution designating this week as creative economy week in Waupun.  City administrator Kathy Schlieve says its an effort to recognize the role that the creative economy plays in development and civic engagement through the arts and creativity, and how that contributes to the health and vibrancy of the community.  Schlieve says Waupun has a legacy of arts and innovation driven in large part by industrialist Clarence Shaler.  One of Shaler’s work is a large bronze statue called End of the Trail,  unveiled in Shaler Park in 1929.  The statue was restored in 2015.  Schlieve says the key to developing a creative economy lies in collaboration with the citizens of the community.  Schlieve says Waupun School District students’ artwork is on display this month.  Central Wisconsin Christian School is holding an arts show in conjunction with their awards night ceremony  Thursday night and celebration of the arts night Friday.
