5-6-17 stem design challenge

STEM Academy (Grades 3-5) and STEM Institute (Grades 6-9) teams participated in an 8-week Design Challenge where they were posed challenges by various businesses or organizations to resolve specific issues that they were experiencing.  Shown at the 2nd Annual Design Challenge Showcase held on April 25 with their prototypes are: Ruby Hughes (Grade 4), Karlie Koehler (9), Gretta Saunders (5), Dusty Krikau (Downtown FDL Partnership), Anika Flores (4), and Colin Hamburg (7). Their team undertook the challenge of resolving two problems: lightweight, weather resistant seating for people to use during the Farmer’s Market and more aesthetically pleasing signage to use for redirecting traffic for the Farmer’s Market. During the Showcase, funds were raised for student transportation, materials, and technology to support this unique learning environment. Key Corporate sponsors of the event included: J.F. Ahern Co., Holiday Automotive, Agnesian HealthCare, Tobin Machining, CD Smith, Grande Cheese, and Professional Collectors Corp.
