2-17-17 fundraising effort underway for fdl miracle league

The Fond du Lac city council has approved a resolution that authorizes a memorandum of understanding with Brooke Industries to sponsor what’s called a Miracle League in Fond du Lac.  Brooke Industries executive director Kelli Hughes says the Miracle League is a baseball league for children with disabilities.  “Learning about this program it doesn’t take long to realize just how special it is,”   Hughes told WFDL news.  “…for participants its special, for volunteers, spectators as well.”   Kim and Tom Trent have a daughter with disabilities and are behind the effort to build a Miracle League baseball diamond complex at Plamore Park.  The Trent’s 15 year old daughter Kaitlin played in the Miracle League in Appleton last summer and thought it would be a great idea to start a league in Fond du Lac.   “One of the most important things that goes through my mind is we have three other kids and Kaitlin gets to go along to all their games and to see her out there doing these things and watching her siblings watch her play.  You can just see it in her eyes, she’ll get up there to bat and she’ll be turning around looking at us,”  Tom Trent told WFDL news.  “That to me is the most special thing.”   Hughes says the League is in the process of raising money to pay for all of the improvements including a field, parking lot, restrooms and playground.  The fundraising goal is a million dollars.  The memorandum of understanding would be for 20 years.  The league would use the field for practices and games a few days a week and the field would be open to the public the rest of the time.  City staff would maintain the restrooms, parking lot and playground and the League would be responsible for field maintenance.
