2-16-17 high speed chase through quiet fdl neighborhood ends in crash

2017-02-15 16.35.162017-02-15 16.35.03Nobody was seriously injured and a Milwaukee man is in custody following a short high speed chase in Fond du Lac.   It all happened in a matter of a few minutes around 4pm Wednesday.  A Fond du Lac police officer was chasing a suspect  in a quiet residential neighborhood when the suspect lost control of the vehicle crashing into two parked vehicles and the front porch of a house at 275 8th Street…just west of Star Street.   Neighbor Chad Rhoades was asleep when he heard the crash.  “I was in bed, I work nights,  and all I heard was boom,” Rhoades told WFDL news on the scene.  Amber Rumbuc  lives across the street with her two children.   Rumbuc told WFDL news she ran outside when she heard the crash and says she saw the suspect jump out of the car and jumped a backyard fence before police caught him.  Rumbuc says she’s very concerned that there was a high speed chase down a quiet street where children play.  “Yeah its scary.  My daughter was just going to ride her bike because its kind of nice out.  She usually goes around the block and she comes around here so that would have been really scary.”   Collin Gneiser says he came outside to see that his parked car was one of the vehicles hit by the fleeing car.  “All I heard was a giant crash.  I thought it was from the back of the house on the corner of our block but then I came out to the front and I see a guy running away and I look and I see my car.  The back of my car is fricking destroyed.”   The chase started when police attempted a traffic stop on a 23 year old Milwaukee man for reckless driving near 4th and Main Streets.
