2-15-17 school start date-fdl superintendent react

The Fond du Lac School superintendent says his initial reaction is favorable toward a proposed bill that would allow school districts to start the school year before Labor Day.   Under the proposed bill schools could start as early as September first.  Superintendent Dr. Jim Sebert says moving up the school start date would mean that students would get out earlier in the spring.  “I recognize the tourism industry…what I do think though is that whether you’re in northern Wisconsin or where we are, circumstances are different and I think that’s why we elect boards of education so that they can have the ability to see what makes sense in their community,”  Sebert told WFDL news.  Sebert says there are also several school activities that are already underway before September first.
