As the community of Beaver Dam prepares to welcome the return of the Patriot Tour for closing ceremonies and a celebration at Hogz & Honeez Bar and Grill, the flag that left Wisconsin on May 24 for a 100-day, 14,000-mile journey through the 48 Continental United States is circling back toward home. Over the next two days the flag and its Patriot Tour escort will move through Minnesota and Iowa before making its way to Wisconsin on Saturday, August 30, landing first at Badger Harley-Davidson in Madison and then on to Hogz & Honeez, officials confirmed today. More than 500 riders are expected to escort the flag from Madison to and through Beaver Dam. Governor Walker will address the crowd at the closing ceremony.
“We invite the community to line the streets along the parade route as we return to Beaver Dam, and then to join us for the closing ceremony and celebration,” said Wade Fletcher, co-owner of Hogz & Honeez and Steelhorse Motorsports, sponsors of the Patriot Tour. “This flag and these riders deserve a warm and memorable welcome.”
Riders are expected to reach the south end of Beaver Dam for an 11 a.m. start to the parade that will make its way from the Business 151 exit north on Madison Street, turning right on Front Street and heading out of town on Highway 33 east, to Hogz & Honeez. The closing ceremony begins there at noon and attendees are reminded that they can park at the Fair Grounds and ride shuttle buses to Hogz & Honeez. The buses begin service at 10:30 a.m. and will run throughout the day as needed. There is no charge to ride the bus, Fletcher said.
By the conclusion of The Patriot Tour some 150,000 riders will have stepped up to escort the flag to cities across the country raising funds for the families of wounded veterans and honoring our nation’s past, present and fallen military personnel. To-date, nearly $80,000 has been raised, all of which will be shared with families of wounded veterans before the end of the year.
“This is one of those opportunities when a community can set aside political differences and unite around one incredible cause, standing together for all the right reasons,” Fletcher said. “There is nothing quite like the overwhelming sense of honor and responsibility that comes with escorting the flag on this very special journey. All are welcome.”
Riders will gather Saturday at Hogz & Honeez at 7:30a.m. for a 7:45 a.m. departure to Badger Harley-Davidson in Madison. There the final flag transfer will begin at 9 a.m. At 10 a.m. the riders will leave Badger Harley-Davidson, arriving in Beaver Dam for the parade through downtown and the noon ceremony at Hogz & Honeez, Fletcher confirmed.
The closing ceremony will include remarks by Bill Sherer, founder and executive director of the Nation of Patriots, Governor Walker and others. The celebration to follow will include food, beverages and live music by The Characters. Hogz & Honeez Bar & Grill is located 2 miles east of Beaver Dam at W7771 Highway 33 East.
